What to Expect During Your Newborn Photography Session in Saskatoon
Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of life's most incredible milestones. Those tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, soft eyelashes, and adorable little yawns change so quickly. A professional newborn session preserves these fleeting moments so you can remember them forever.
If you're wondering what happens during a newborn photography session, here's exactly what you can expect when you visit my home studio.
Before Your Session
The best time to photograph your newborn is between 7 and 21 days after birth. During this stage, babies are typically sleepier, curl naturally into those beautiful newborn poses, and are most comfortable being gently wrapped.
I recommend reserving your session during your second trimester. Since babies rarely arrive exactly on their due date, we'll use your due date as a placeholder and finalize your appointment once your little one arrives.
A Full-Service Experience
One of the biggest questions new parents ask is, "What do I need to bring?"
The answer? Not much.
My newborn sessions are designed to be completely stress-free. The studio is fully stocked with everything needed for your baby's portraits, including:
Beautiful wraps and swaddles
Hand-selected bonnets and headbands
Curated props and baskets
Luxury blankets and backdrops
Diaper-changing essentials
Wipes and diapers
Bottled water and refreshments for parents
Simply bring your baby, extra bottles if bottle feeding, or be prepared to nurse whenever your little one needs a feeding.
A Calm, Baby-Led Session
Every baby is different, and I never rush the process.
Newborn sessions typically last 2 to 4 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, cuddling, diaper changes, and soothing your baby back to sleep.
Your baby's comfort and safety always come first. If your little one needs extra snuggles or feeding breaks, we simply pause and continue when they're ready.
Family and Sibling Portraits
Your newborn session isn't just about your baby.
Parents, siblings, and even grandparents are always welcome to be part of your session at no additional cost. These portraits often become the most treasured images because they capture the love and connection your family shares during this incredible season of life.
I recommend wearing neutral, timeless clothing so the focus stays on your family and your beautiful new baby.
Safety Is My Top Priority
Your baby's safety is never compromised for a photograph.
With years of experience photographing newborns, every pose is done gently and safely. I carefully watch your baby's comfort throughout the session and adjust based on their needs. Composite images are used whenever necessary to ensure your baby is always fully supported.
After Your Session
Following your session, I carefully hand-edit each image to create timeless artwork you'll love for generations.
You'll receive a private online gallery where you can select your favorite images from your chosen collection. Your portraits are professionally retouched while preserving your baby's natural beauty.
These aren't just photographs—they're memories that become part of your family's story.
